National Road 48 Road Construction to Begin in November

Phnom Penh: The 148 kilometres road stretching from National Road No. 4, in Koh Kong’s Chamkar Luong Sre Ambel to Khemarak Phoumin City is scheduled to start construction in November. A Korean construction company Ilsung & Hanil Joint Venture has signed the contract to run the project for 32 months costing over $78 million, a concessional loan from the Republic of Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol says during the signing ceremony held on Monday, the Korean companies will build strong and durable roads. He has admired the roads in Korea for being solid and durable. He is expecting that same roads will be built in Cambodia for this project. The road construction in the National Road No. 48 will be expanded to four lanes with a length of 25-km.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the project of upgrading National Road No. 48 will provide important benefits such as improving the passenger traffic by reducing travel time and transportation costs, increasing traffic safety, adjusting the curves and strong slopes of the road, boosting the potential tourist areas and increasing the economic development of the region, especially with the neighboring countries.
